Welcome to Speedlines! Since
the first issue was released only a few short weeks ago, our e-post
bags have been positively brimming with letters from fans! Unfortunately,
we can't print them all, but here's some of my favourites!

IT'S
ALIVE! |
Dear Megadroid,
STC Lives!
I've been a reader since the very first issue
and I was really miffed when shops stopped selling it at issue #120.
So I missed all the Sonic Adventure stuff except the last part when
Ebony put Super Sonic and Sonic back together.
Cool that Nigel Dobbyn wrote to you, he was
like the best Knuckles artist in there besides Richard Elson (no
offence, Nigel). Also, I see that the first Tails strip was done
by the brilliant Thalia Evans! She's one of my favourite Sonic artists.
Not only that, but I'm told that Rich Morgan, one of my other faves
is doing stuff. Life is good.
Oh, by the way, nice new looks but why oh why
do you take the shape of a Nintendo Console? Surely a Dreamcast
would be more fitting?
Oh well, keep up the good work. I look forward
to Issue 226

Designer
hume Mike Corker wanted to commemorate Sonic's new games career by
taking the Game Cube apart to make my design truly state of the art.
The other humes weren't too pleased that their Game Cube was wrecked,
mind you. |

GUARDIAN
OF THE FLOATING ISLAND |
Hey
Megadroid,
I've really been impressed by what you've all
done so far, particularly the artwork on the Tails strip. Well done!
But whatever happened to Knuckles? He's the guardian of the Floating
Island, so why isn't he out there helping to raise it to the surface?
He probably even knows how to deactivate the robots. Also, Sonic's
one weakness, unless I'm very much mistaken, is that he can't swim.
Anyway, keep it going, I can't wait for the next issue!
Best Wishes,
Michael Stannard
P.S. Since other
Boomers have suggestions for characters to bring back, I'll make
one. How about Cam and Bert from B.A.R.F. (Badnik Army Repair Functionaries)
and the 'Seven Badniks'? See STC 59 to 62, for those who can
remember that far back!

Knuckles
was busy guarding the Chaos Emeralds during "Drowned" but
rest assured that he'll be back in issue 228. |

MEMORY
LANE |
Dear
Megadroid,
I can't believe STC is back, I used
to be their at my newsagents every two weeks with my money. I remember
when I was printed, in fact I still have that issue, I've lost its
cover but the main strip is "Enter Knuckles Part 2". I
wrote about a comment in Decap attack telling us 'humes' to drink
shampoo instead of conditioner and you told me not to take it seriously
and that shampoo tastes bad anyway. I was 6 when I wrote that, I'm
16 in September, I've still got my water fun game and everything,
I can't believe its been 10 years since I write that, I can't believe
STC is back after all these years.
An avid fan,
Stevie Swindells

MADE
IN ENGLAND |
Dear
Megadroid,
What a wonderful surprise this is! I only realised
that STC Online existed when I noticed a link in the Sonic HQ homepage
talking about you. Finding this page brought tears of joy to my
eyes (sentimental but true)! The artwork
is fantastic and the storylines make very good sense (considering
where they've picked up from). I've been a great fan of STC from
the very beginning and I was devastated when they discontinued it.
So finding the website was the greatest treat on a hot and sticky
day! I am so glad that the original creators are behind this, I
was feeling a little worried about reading *yet another* STC fan
comic (who likes change, eh?), but their backing is all the reason
I need to keep reading!
Having read Speedlines in issue 225, it's a
shame that not everyone likes the change, but the story is what
the writer makes of it, and they didn't have to like what the original
team wrote either! But you can't please everyone (you should hear
the hue and cry of oldtime Magic the Gathering fans every time a
new edition comes out, heh heh!). Well, I'm very happy with this
new STC, and by the sounds of it, so are many other people!
Oh, glee! Please bring back some of the old
characters and stories! And let's see some new characters too!
Question: Are you all English? Just curious...
Yours Incredibly Happily,
Stephanie de La Bedoyere |

Actually,
Stephanie, most of my parts are made in Taiwan. |

THE
ADVENTURE CONTINUES |
Dear Megadroid,
I guess like most fans I was disappointed as
I continued to collect Sonic the Comic issues after the Chaos Saga's
dramatic ending and I soon realised that all that was being done
was a constant reprinting of old stories long gone in the past,
which while some were good fun, I still yearned for more fresh and
exciting tales to be told.
So, can I just say that it is fantastic to
see Sonic the Comic back up and running again, continuing the adventures
of our favourite Freedom Fighters after the conclusion to the Chaos
Saga. The idea to take the open ended fate of the Floating Island
was a brilliant example of how to bring the stories back to the
fore. I commend both the artists and writers for the graphics and
story itself.
I look forward to future editions with great
anticipation. Additionally, I do have one question that has been
burning in my mind ever since issue 100 of Sonic the Comic: - Doctor
Zachary. When we last saw him, he escaped from Sonic and Knuckles'
clutches into the depths of the Floating Island, his fate left unknown
and not picked up upon in later issues. Is there any chance we will
see the only other Echidna known to exist in present day Mobius
on the Floating Island in the story 'Drowned' or in later stories?!
Many thanks,

Doctor
Zachary returns this very issue! How’s that for Boomer satisfaction! |

TRUST
SHORTY |
Dear Megadroid,
I love the new STC. I also have an
idea for a new story. Okay, here goes...
Robotnik could escape from the asylum that Sonic put him in. He
could build a new secret base and create new badniks, including
an improved Brutus and Metallix models of Sonic, Knuckles, Tails,
and even Super Sonic.
Anyway, he sends them to attack the Emerald Hill Zone to attack
the gang. It looks hopeless for Sonic and the gang until Shorty
the Squirrel shows up, in new armour that Tekno built him. They
defeat the Badnik army, and send them back to Robotnik in defeat.
Well, what do you think. Not bad, huh?
From Michael Butcher.

|
Not
bad at all, Michael -- but I don't think Sonic will be too pleased
to be upstaged! |
|
BRING
BACK THE KID! |
Dear STC,
Ah, good ol' StC. My favourite comic when I
was a young lad, one I read avidly for years up until the quality
dropped. Then I came back to the fold for the rash of apocalyptic
epics that marked Andy Diggle's editorship. I was hyped about my
childhood buddy reaching new heights... and then STC went full reprint.
And now it's back. Aw yeah. You guys rule.
This whole thing oozes with the style,
quality and the atmosphere of the old StC. And to my delight, you're
not content to sit around and just ape the old stories- we've got
new ideas in action, like the inhabitants of the former Drakon outpost,
Tikal hitching a ride through Sonic, the Amy/Tekno relationship
turned around... It's all good. And now it looks like everything's
gonna hit the fan Super Sonic-wise, and this gives me a fanboy tingle
deep down...
I second the cry for more Kid Chameleon, because
I've been waiting to see him fight The Voice since 1995. Seeing
the return of the Flock and Tails' Zonerunner outfit wouldn't go
amiss either, or the return of Simmonds-Hurn's lovely pencil colouring.
And also- big thumbs-up for including
Rich C's "fan" letter. It's always fun to see comics cheerfully
posting the hate mail they get.
All the best (and
bring back Kid Chameleon!)

Unfortunately, Charles, the Kid has hung up his shades - for the time
being, at least. |

HEDGEHOG
HAPPY |
Dear
Megadroid,
Well, I must say. I'm impressed! I know you get
that all the time but it's the truth! Until it ended I used to buy
the original comic and I loved it. I was very disappointed when
it came to an end though. I am so happy that the Sonic legend can
continue! Okay, so it is not the real Sonic the Comic but what an
effort you have put into it! Congratulations one and all!
From Stephen who loves Sonic!
PS: Excuse me, Rich
C, if you are reading this but you are wrong. This website is fantastic.
So eat your words!

|
Thanks,
Stephen, and keep reading! |

DAMSEL
NO MORE? |
Hey
Megadroid!
Great to see you back, STC just wasn’t
the same with just those Humes who Think They’re In Charge!
I was a fan of Sonic right from the start, but only started reading
STC from #9 onwards and my local newsie stopped selling it after
the 120th issue I think....so I’ve missed out on some great
stuff! Me and my little sis sent loadsa stuff to the Graphic Zone
and each of us got a pic printed! Don't think I ever said thanks,
so here’s my opportunity!
STC online is great, I’m amazed at the writers and artists
talent...how an Mobius did they do that?! I disagree with Rich C
in the latest issue completely! The same STC style is evident, right
down to including Control Zone and Speedlines! Story wise the characters
have remained true to the old gang we know and love! I was especially
pleased to see an Amy story as she was my fave character! Will she
be appearing in later issues too? I wasn't too keen on her new look
and classic "damsel in distress" attitude in the more
recent games, she's a tomboy who can take care of herself!
Anyway, its great to see something that played such a big part in
my childhood return in such great style! What can I say? Well done
guys, you rule!
Take care and good luck!
love Claire Ryan
