In Wreck-It-Ralph, director Rich Moore depicts a world where video game villains, such as Bowser and Dr. Robotnik, aren't really bad, in spite of their evil actions in the game. In fact, they're just doing their job.

The movie takes place in an arcade shop. Once customers leave, we discover the real life of the video games' protagonists. Their main goal is to prevent their game from being forgotten and ultimately unplugged, meaning their entire game, and its world, is erased.

We then meet Ralph, the bad guy of the "Fix-it Felix Jr" video game. As the villain of the game, he's not well received by the others characters and they reject him. Poor Ralph is tired of that life and wants to prove that he, too, can be a good guy. He then decides to leave his own game and try his hand in other video games, such as "Hero's Duty" and "Sugar Rush", a kid-friendly kart racing title.

In the latter, he meets Vanellope von Schweetz: a little girl who dreams to be a racer in the karting competition of Sugar Rush. Ralph decides to help her and they begin their adventure together. Meanwhile, with Ralph missing, a girl reports to the arcade owner that Fix-It Felix, Jr. is malfunctioning. Since broken games get unplugged, leaving their characters homeless, Felix searches for Ralph...

The movie feels like a good mix of Who framed Roger Rabbit and Toy Story. The writing is really good and has its share of surprises. The audience really feel for Ralph who's just trying to be a good guy. Vanellope is not the usual "funny sidekick" that's usually used in Disney movies. She's really competent, cute and will offer a few surprises.

Screenshot The movie is also filled with lots of cameos from various video games celebrities. I've mentioned Bowser and Robotnik, but good eyes will also spot Zangief, Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter, Pac Man and Clyde the ghost, Q*Bert and his critters, Paperboy, and more! Our hero Sonic is also in the movie and has various cameos, be it just walking around or being hit and losing his precious rings. You can't miss it, Boomers (and stay during the end credits for more surprises)!

Even if you're not a gamer, don't worry, you'll be able to enjoy the movie, as the core story centres around Ralph's journey.
