Control Zone

Hey Boomers!

You might have noticed we’ve had a bit of a clean-up around here! After Super Sonic wrecked the joint last issue, we’ve been forced to renovate and remodel! Our design Hume has been working double-time for no extra pay to bring you our sparkly new page so be sure to drop us a line on social media to let us know what you think!

If you’ve been following our last several issues, you’ll no doubt remember we’ve just concluded our astonishing Super Sonic Unleashed storyline- or so you thought! There’s still the matter of one Dexter Bagstille and his part in events to be dealt with. Dexter stands trial for his crimes in Heroes or Villains, our epilogue to Unleashed. Meanwhile, Dexter’s Ultimax running buddy Holly is still knee-deep in action with Tails and the Scrap Mobians as they battle Badniks with the help of the Scrap Mobians’ leader, a certain Shorty the Squirrel- but you can call him The War Machine (maybe not to his face, though, he’s a bit tetchy lately)!

Tails and Amy also have their work cut out for them in our Sonic’s World strip this issue as they come face to face with a blast from their past and some new faces- the mysterious Chao! With all this action, you might think Mobius’ heroes are overstretched- and you’d be right! Fortunately, the Chaotix Crew are on hand to help with the war effort- but it’s not going to be as simple as Vector might like! Meanwhile, now that Super Sonic has been defeated, does Silver the Hedgehog still have a future left to return to?

And, of course, we have our usual Zones for you to run, with Omni-Viewer taking you through the origin of one of our most beloved heroes in the Flashback Zone and the usual selection of Pin-Ups, this issue a collection of wintery, wonderful wallpapers- woohoo!

2015 was the year of Unleashed but 2016 going to be even more amazing as all our characters begin to come together as we reach for our astonishing issue #275- and I’ve seen the plans, Boomers, they’re a bit good!

Omni-Viewer: Happy

Wotcha, time-travelling Boomers! Omni-Viewer here once again to take you on a trip through STC history! Now, as I recall, when last we met I promised you a glimpse into the past of one of Sonic’s oldest friends. Some of you newer readers may not have noticed this but Amy happens to be pink. I know, shocking, right?

But you’re almost certainly aware that real hedgehogs aren’t pink or blue but brown! And, much like Sonic, Amy used to be a brunette! But how exactly did she end up pink? And what led to her becoming a member of the Freedom Fighters? Allow me to share with you…

Flashback Zone

Doctor Robotnik! Now there’s a name to strike fear into the heart of any decent Mobian, even more so back in the period of Mobian history known as Mobius R.B.R.- that’s Mobius Ruled By Robotnik, back when the fat scientist was planetary dictator (it’s a long story, but a good one!).

Now, at this point, Robotnik had no idea he used to be the friendly Doctor Ovi Kintobor- but he certainly had access to Kintobor’s lab shortly after his transformation and he would have almost certainly learned, from computer records of the time Sonic shattered the sound barrier, turning blue and becoming streamlined thanks to Cobalt Effect (Sonic The Comic, fun and educational, readers). And he was most definitely aware that Sonic was really, really fast.

So, like any true scientist, Robotnik decided to replicate the experiment that turned Sonic blue and streamlined, hoping to get a bit of a speed boost in the process to keep up with his eternal foe!

Flashback Zone

Meanwhile, in a nearby village on South Island, a certain young rabble rousing hedgehog was stirring up the crowds- or at least trying to. Yes, Boomers, that is our Amy Rose! Amy had always had a backbone and a strong belief in justice. She’d had enough of Robotnik’s reign and wanted to rally the people of Mobius against him to oust him from power! Unfortunately for her, they weren’t interested. Everyone was either too afraid of Robotnik or just resigned to being subjugated. Robotnik, for his money, was hardly worried about Amy. Referring to her as an “insignificant little madam”, Robotnik scoffed at the very thought that the young lady could be a problem. Oh how little he knew!

Flashback Zone

As Robotnik’s plan neared fruition, he prepared to become infused with new energies that would, he hoped, make him Sonic’s match. That was more than Amy was willing to accept by a long shot! Arriving at Robotnik’s Chemical Plant Zone laboratory, she made a grand entrance and fired a missile-like bolt from her crossbow straight into the machine!

Flashback Zone

Robotnik was livid that Amy’s efforts had destabilised the machine and flung her into the power core, hoping to take her out in the inevitable explosion! Who knows how it happened, Boomers, but something else entirely took place- the explosion was merely part of an amazing reaction that turned Amy into her lovely pink colour! I believe it’s known as the Magenta Effect (It’s definitely not –Megadroid).

Flashback Zone

As Amy made good her escape, she was sure to take out as many of Robotnik’s Troopers as possible! The dumbfounded doc yelled at his mechanical morons, telling them the reaction had heightened Amy’s fighting ability. On the contrary, Amy told him, just like Sonic had always been fast before his transformation, Amy had always been good at fighting- but Robotnik overlooked her because she didn’t have a cool look! It was a mistake Robotnik wouldn’t make again!

Back in her village, Amy found people much more receptive to her upon learning of her antics. Amy was thrilled to say the least but, as we all know, the story didn’t end there.

Omni-Viewer: Proud

On the contrary! Amy went on to become one of the greatest heroes Mobius would know! Her kind heart and just morals are matched only by her combat skills- skills she uses to protect innocents from danger constantly. And she wouldn’t have it any other way!

Of course, there was still the matter of infiltrating Sonic’s crew. Luckily for Amy, she was a resourceful sort and realised Sonic had a tiny wee bit of an ego on him- so maybe he’d get wound up if some total stranger went around telling all and sundry she was his girlfriend. Well, it certainly worked- she got his attention alright, but unfortunately almost everyone on Mobius still thinks to this day the two of them are romantically involved!

Next time, Boomers, I’ll treat you to another adventure with Amy but this time with her best friend Tekno (you know, before she got all that armour and what have you)!

See you next Space-Time!
